About Khan Do Kwan

A Modern Indian Fighting System

Khan Do Kwan is a Modern Indian Fighting System—created for effectiveness, built on experience, and designed for the realities of combat and self-protection.

Founded by Grandmaster Javed Khan, Khan Do Kwan is an independent martial arts system with its own identity, philosophy, curriculum, ranking structure, and training methodology.

Despite the Korean sound of its name, Khan Do Kwan is not Korean, nor is it a system or branch of Taekwondo. The name reflects part of its founder's martial arts journey, but the system itself was developed independently from decades of training, competition, teaching, research, and real-world experience.

Grandmaster Javed Khan holds 9th Dan black belts in two systems of Taekwondo and is the Founder and 10th Dan of Khan Do Kwan. A former Taekwondo and Kickboxing champion, two-time world record holder in breaking, and law enforcement officer with more than two decades of service, he has spent over five decades studying not simply how martial arts are practiced—but how fighting actually works when the consequences are real.

That philosophy became the foundation of Khan Do Kwan.

The system draws upon proven principles of striking, kicking, grappling, joint manipulation, close-quarter combat, self-defense, and tactical movement, refining them around a simple standard:

Does it work when it matters?

Khan Do Kwan rejects unnecessary complexity and techniques that depend upon ideal circumstances. Its approach is direct, adaptable, instinctive, and practical. Students learn to generate power efficiently, control distance, recognize opportunity, adapt to changing circumstances, and respond decisively under pressure.

But Khan Do Kwan is more than a collection of fighting techniques.

It develops discipline, awareness, confidence, judgment, physical capability, and the mindset to act when action becomes necessary. Traditional martial arts values remain an important part of the system, but tradition never replaces function.

Khan Do Kwan has also provided the foundation and fighting principles behind specialized training programs developed for different real-world needs, including civilian self-protection, women's counter-assault training, and law enforcement defensive tactics.

Khan Do Kwan is not Taekwondo with another name.

It is a Modern Indian Fighting System with its own identity, its own philosophy, and its own path.

Mission

Mission Statement – Khan Do Kwan

The mission of Khan Do Kwan is to preserve, develop, and advance a Modern Indian Fighting System that prepares individuals for the realities of physical confrontation while maintaining the discipline, responsibility, and values of the martial arts.

Our training is built around five fundamental principles:

Simplicity. Effectiveness. Adaptability. Control. Decisive Action.

We believe techniques must work for the individual—not the individual for the technique. Training must prepare the mind as well as the body, developing the ability to recognize danger, make decisions under pressure, and act with commitment when necessary.

Khan Do Kwan is committed to developing capable martial artists, knowledgeable instructors, and responsible individuals who understand that fighting ability carries with it an obligation to exercise judgment and restraint.

We will continue to study, test, refine, and evolve the system while preserving the principles upon which it was founded.

Because martial arts should never become frozen in time.

We respect tradition.
We learn from experience.
We adapt to reality.
And when action becomes necessary—we act with purpose.

Vision

Vision Statement

Khan Do Kwan

Our vision is to establish Khan Do Kwan as a globally recognized Modern Indian Fighting System, respected for its effectiveness, adaptability, integrity, and commitment to the continued evolution of the martial arts.

We envision a system that honors the values and discipline of traditional martial arts while refusing to be limited by tradition. Khan Do Kwan will continue to study, test, refine, and evolve its methods to meet the realities of modern combat, self-protection, and personal safety.

Through the development of qualified instructors, affiliated schools, international representation, and specialized programs such as WARDA® – Women Against Rape & Domestic Abuse and KPCT – Khan Do Kwan Police Control Tactics, we seek to extend the principles of Khan Do Kwan far beyond the traditional martial arts school.

Our goal is to make effective training accessible to people from all walks of life while developing martial artists who possess not only fighting ability, but also discipline, confidence, awareness, judgment, responsibility, and character.

Above all, our vision is for Khan Do Kwan to endure beyond any one generation—to continue growing, evolving, and producing capable martial artists and instructors throughout the world.

Not simply as another martial art, but as a lasting martial arts legacy born in India, developed through experience, and built for the realities of the modern world.
